Well new to me. It is actually quite old.
The Akai Mpc 3000 was originally made 1994:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Music_Production_Center#MPC3000

This is the rereleased LE version made in 2000. #0711 of 2000 made.

Ive already taken it apart and gave it a good cleaning. Then I ordered 32mb of ram to upgrade from 16mb. Ordered a new backlight for the screen as the current one is quite dim. And finally the 2 biggest upgrades you can do to the Mpc 3000:

1. I guy named Rohan has actually created his own custom OS for the 3000. It adds some really nice features:

http://www.mansell-labs.com/products.html

2. I put in an internal SCSI Flash drive in it. So it can read and write to a compact flash card instead of a floppy or zip.

Now we will see what kind of beats I can make on it.

We begin again. 2011

Its been awhile since last I updated my little blog. The game is very pretty and also very hard. Now its time to dig in and learn to play. Ive started to read some more about this game and it seems very complex. It seems you want to not get many of the power ups as this makes the game extremely hard. You also want to bomb more and to get more medals and points.

Hi game play video:

Dyne2.avi

Player 1 and player 2 are 2 different characters with 2 different ships. And 4 options for each ship.

Player 1 = Bond's Ship:

* Default (ST)
- Shot: Twin firing stream, upgradeable to double threeway.
- Bomb: Wide Napalm. Amount of bomb fragments affects width and travelling distance - up to half-bomb gives two streams, more than half-bomb adds one extra stream to each side
- Option: All Options are fixable upon holding the A button
- Speed: Faster of the two default ships
* (A)
- Shot: Twin firing stream, upgradeable to double threeway. Bullet size seems bigger than default. Shot Reinforced power?
- Bomb: Concentrated Napalm. Amount of bomb fragments affects travelling distance and width as default. However, according to a Japanese forum, this bomb can be controlled like the Silver Sword's Napalm in Garegga. So far, I haven't ben able to do that though :?
- Option: All Options are unfixable.
- Speed: Slightly slower than default.
* (B)
- Shot: Gets a penetration bullet with higher Shot levels
- Bomb: Homing Twin Napalm. Two homing missiles are fired which leave a trail of napalm in their path. Amount of bomb fragments affects homing missile travelling distance.
- Option: Side Options are fixable, while the back Option is free.
- Speed: Slightly faster than default.
* (A+B)
- Shot: Shot is wider than the default.
- Bomb: Area blast attack, similar to Gain's Weapon in Garegga. Amount of bomb fragments determines how long the bomb "burns" for.
- Option: The back Option is fixable, while the side Options are free.
- Speed: Fastest of all subtypes.

Player 2 = Dyne's Ship

* Default (ST)
- Shot: Three way, upgradeable to five way (?)
- Bomb: Wide Napalm. Speed of napalm is a lot slower than 1P, but burns longer. Amount of bomb fragments affects napalm cluster width and burn length.
- Option: All Options are fixable upon holding the A button
- Speed: Slowest of the two default ships
* (A)
- Shot: Bullet size seems bigger than default. Shot Reinforced power?
- Bomb: Fast short ranged cluster bomb, similar to the yellow cluster bomb in Raiden DX, but fired ahead of the ship.
- Option: All Options are unfixable.
- Speed: Slowest of all subtypes (ack -_-;; )
* (B)
- Shot: Shot width becomes a lot more narrow and concentrated.
- Bomb: Short ranged cluster bomb, similar to the yellow bomb in Raiden DX, but dropped underneath your ship (like in Raiden DX).
- Option: Side Options are fixable, while the back Option is free.
- Speed: Slightly faster than default.
* (A+B)
- Shot: Shot is wider than the default. Much, much wider -_-;;
- Bomb: Area blast attack, similar to Gain's Weapon in Garegga. Amount of bomb fragments determines how long the bomb "burns" for. Dyne's area blast is a double explosion, while Bond's is a single explosion. Apparently, this is the strongest bomb out of al subtypes, even at minimum bomb fragment amount.
- Option: The back Option is fixable, while the side Options are free.
- Speed: Faster than default.

[BOMB]
By just tapping bomb, you use the standard napalm style bomb wave. Regular bombs are almost instantaneous (depending on the ship type you have selected). They do not make you invincible, like Garegga, so caution must be exercised.

You can also use the hadou (wave cannon) bomb, which takes up a full bomb. To use the hadou, you hold down the bomb button instead of tapping it, and to fire the hadou, you release the bomb button. The hadou travels straight, and follows the targeting trail in front of your ship when activated. Anything that touches the hadou's vaportail and the ball-shaped explosion will be destroyed, and bullets will nullify and turn into Rose Medals.
There is a delay with the hadou, as it needs to be activated and then released. The hadou missile moves very slowly as well, so it is not used as a panic weapon, but more of a scoring weapon, since it can be used to destroy large groups of drones that drop items, and to generate Rose Medals from nastier boss patterns.

[SHOT]
Garegga style: rapidly tapping the Shot button, then holding the Shot button will alter the firing rate. Also known as Shot Frequency, covered in detail in the Garegga ST.

The stronger the weapon is, the higher rank is increased by it.
From lowest to highest (this is speculation:):

* Machine Gun
* Homing [weak, but rapid and seeking]
* Five Way [higher in power due to five shots, great at point blank(?)]
* Rocket [piercing]
* Gatling [faster Machine Gun, think Juno in Einhander]
* Burner [slower to fire, high powered]
* Napalm [slow firing, explosive missile, high power, residual damage]

If you're going to go with weaker weapons, you might need to raise your Shot level up a bit to compensate. You seem to be able to get a lot of Machine Gun, Rocket and FiveWay in the game, so I don't think that waiting for these weapons to appear is going to be a problem.

[FORMATION]
* SEARCH: Drop five small bomb fragments, then pick up an Option powerup.
All the equipped options will lock onto and fire at enemies within range. Usually targets boss main weakpoints.

* WIDE: Drop five Option powerups, then pick up the sixth Option powerup.
The side Options will point out to fire into a wide V shape (similar to Dyne Type D's main Shot), while the rear Option will retain it's usual behaviour depending on your ship subtype.

* ROLLING: Drop five Medals, then pick up an Option powerup.
Your Options will spin around while firing. Goddamned useless >_<;;

* BACK: Drop five small Shot powerups, then pick up an Option powerup.
Your Options will point to fire at your tail, in a formation similar to TFIV's unpowered up Tailgun, or Silvergun's Back-Wide (about 30degrees out back). Again, also useless >_<;;

[SCORE]
If you use an Option to pick up a powerup, it will change that side's weapon. You can also exploit this to get 10,000pts for identical powerups. It's a little messy though, so don't always rely on it, as it can swap weapons around.

[1UP]
The only 1-up item in the game (not sure) can be obtained by taking apart level 4's mid-boss. You must damage both wings to the point they are shooting 3 long rows of bullets at you before destroying the boss.
Destroy all parts of the stage 4 midboss before destroying the main body to drop the Extend, the only one available in the game.

[MEDAL]
Before the medal value can go up, you must have the screen absolutely, positively clear of medals. If you just blew up a large 4x4 building and now have a pile of 5000 medals, you'll need to get them all cleaned up before a 6000 one will appear. Otherwise the next medal that shows will be the current value, 5000.

[RANK]
The more important things to consider are how long you've played without dying, how many lives you have in stock and what weapons you're carrying. The longer you play with a couple of lives, napalm and burner options the faster rank goes up- if you know you can make it to the next extend it's best to plan a suicide early and often.
Also, the higher rank gets the less effect an eventual death will have so you should plan periodic suicides and keep rank as low as you can while still scoring well.

[TIPS]
Grabbing weapon change items gives a moment of invulnerability similar to Zanac Neo. Bullets will be turned into roses if you come into contact with them during this. That's the "aura flash". It only happens for a split second when you collect a new subweapon, or when your ship increases Shot power level. The aura is very very shortranged, and it is not a recommended strategy to rely on constant weapon changes a-la Zanac Neo. That "aura flash" will do huge amounts of damage to bosses too. If you get killed on a boss make sure you grab your power ups right on top of them.
You get 50,000 pts for waiting for the little ship to drop off the stage 1 boss and destroying it before it leaves the bottom of the screen (not so sure you have to wait for it to fall).
The Ground turrets in stage 2 will not fire at you if you fly close to them, or you can take them out just as they are appearing on screen. Their effective "blanking" range (the minimum range you can be within for them to stop firing) shortens as rank increases. At default range, it's likely to be around 1/2 to 1 1/4 ship lengths.

Some good posts on Shmups forums:

Ibara strategy

More Ibara Info

First Arcade Shooter - Cave's Ibara

This week I will receive Ibara, a Shmup, to put in my Sega New Astro City. Ive heard its super hard and frustrating. Luckily, someone has just found a "special version" of the game hidden in the program code that allows level select, pause, slow motion and more! All of this info and pics were found on the Shmups forum here:

Link -> Ibara Special Version

To access the "special version" you need to have DIP switch #2 flipped like this:

Power on the game
Hold down the A+B buttons & release once the loading screen displays
You will enter a special version of the setup which looks like this:

Now press the A button to return to the main title screen. The title screen will be the same except "Special Ver" will be displayed on the right.

- At the title screen, move the stick left or right to select a stage (great for practice)

- While playing press the start buton to pause or hold the start button to slo-mo

- Rank counter is at the top of the screen during gameplay

- Ability to take over control of either ship and play during the demo cycle

- Hold A+B+C for 2 seconds and the game will reboot. You can also hold A+B immediately after this to boot right back into Special Mode.

- You can hold C with up/down to bring up the debug screens (anywhere except during play)

- While viewing debug info, you can press start to resume playing while keeping the debug screen overlayed

*The rank indicator appears to consists of two parts, a rank level, and a rank counter. The counter continually decrements from a high hex number. The rank level starts at 10 and slowly goes up by 1 or 2 each stage.

Here is a video of Ibara's stage 1 (normal version) on someone's Taito Egret II:

Ill post more once I have it, tate my monitor, and get the game in the cabinet.

Sega Universal -> New Net City Rebuild

I bought a chopped Sega Naomi Universal arcade cabinet in the spring and I wanted to clean it up and turn it into a Sega New Net City:

Wanted to freshin the paint up and give it a good cleaning. Around this time I bought a US PFX to replace the 31k Nanao it came with. But I had just bought a New Astro and had no where to put it at my house. So I dismantled it and stored at work in a closet. Being the noob that I am. I took lots of pics of the dismantle and labled bag after bag of all the parts. Finally, I just made some room and had time to rebuild it over the holidays. Still working on the PFX power adapter, but wanted to get it working to play for the next week. So here is my rebuild in all of its glory. :P Reading this post is what really inspired me to do this:

viewtopic.php?f=6&t=2436

I had my friend paint some of the plastics in Appliance Gloss White. I wanted to do the metal base and doors also but I just didnt have the recources or time. I focused on what I could do. I magic erased the **** out of everything I could. I bought a NNC kit from Craig @:

http://www.giz10p.co.uk/Cabinet-Parts/S ... od_89.html

Also sourced a new marquee holder. Bought new parts when I could. A new marquee, buttons, and sticks. Bought a cheap Naomi board with broken Gd-Rom for cheap. Adjusted the Gd-Rom laser pot and fixed. Magic erased the whole Naomi board and good as new. Resoldered the RCAs on the cabinet sound amp to fix sound problems. Replaced dead Sun psu fan. Then I started the rebuild of my chopped Uni.

<img Lent out my only Naomi game so threw in my Xbox360 pad hacks and tested out SF4. Everything turned on and ran great. Pretty surprised being I know nothing about this stuff. Its just like the OG Nes version just more refined and added moves. You still have 2 buttons and the D-pad, but you can do so much with them. We like to get extra lives in level 2-3. Mid ways through there is a pipe up in the air. Go in this pipe and hit the p block and you get six 1ups. Now at the end of this level there is a turtle coming down the stairs before the flag pole. I instantly was reminded of the 1up trick in the Nes Mario Bros. World 3-1 where the 2 turtles are coming down the steps. It looks a little something like this:

Well after many times through 2-3 I finally did it. So if you want a quick way to get 99 men, this is pretty nice. I find standing on the edge of the 3rd step and doing a little jump to start it off works the best.

Golfernoggins

Well Im still stuck in Telluride. So I started to edit pics from my trip so far. On our way here we stopped off in Albuquerque to visit a friend. While there I came across the craziest sign:

So after dinner we decided to check it out. We ended up playing 18 holes and it was very fun. I had planned to spend a day with him and leave the next morning. But things dont always work out the way you think. It hadnt snowed yet and everything seemed fine. But while we were eating breakfast it started to snow. And then it really started to snow. While on our way back around the mountain from Telluride to Mountain Village, the car began to lose traction pretty bad. So we went back to Telluride, which isnt very big, and bought some chains for the tires. Started back around the mountain and as soon as we started to climb we started to slide off the edge. It was very scary. We ended having to get help. A nice cop got us a tow from this guy named Renegade. After a little detour he dropped us off and we are safe. But it will be snowing for the next few days so I will be staying longer than I had planned.

Snow Joke!

OSx86 Project

I havent updated the blog in a few weeks. Ive been very busy with a new project. My friend just got a new Dell laptop. He is moving away next week and wanted to know if its possible to run Garageband on a pc. Its not. But you can run Mac OSX on a pc. So I looked into that. This website has all the info you will need:

http://www.insanelymac.com/

But its not that simple. You need a computer with components that are similar to an Intel mac. You DONT have to, but it will make things a lot easier.

Dell Mini 10v

In the link above you see how to take a very cheap Dell Mini and run a retail copy of OSX on it. But other laptops and computers may not be so easy. I started on my Dell M1210 first. And after a few days I am now tri booting XP, Win7 and Osx 10.5.6. But its not flawless. I dont have the bootloader working perfect. As I work more on my friends Dell 1318 I will post back with how I got things running and what all works. Thats if I can do it. =)

Iphone 3gs 3.1 OTB Jailbroken with Blackra1n

http://blackra1n.com/

Geohot released Blackra1n at 3:33am Sunday 10-11-09. There is a mac version also.

BlackRa1n will not unlock your iPhone. If that’s your case, you will have to wait for the Dev Team to update PwnageTool.

This tutorial was written for an iPhone 3GS but the process is exactly the same for all iPhones.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone Using BlackRain:

Step 1: Update iTunes to the latest version available, (as of 10-14-09 its iTunes 9), and reboot your computer. 3.1.2 is the lastest iPhone firmware at this time. (My iPhone 3gs was on 3.1 and this still worked. For others it did not.)

Step 2: Download BlackRa1n: http://blackra1n.com/

Step 3: Plug your iPhone to your computer and launch BlackRa1n. Click on “make it ra1n”.

Step 4: Your iPhone will now enter recovery mode. The regular recovery mode image on your iPhone will be replaced by a picture of GeoHot.

Step 5: BlackRa1n will run on your iPhone and then it will reboot.

Step 6: Once your iPhone reboots, you will notice a new icon on your springboard. This is BlackRa1n. Now make sure you have internet connection and launch BlackRa1n on your iPhone.

Step 7: Choose what installer applications you want to install on your iPhone and then tap “Install”. I suggest only installing Cydia.

BlackRa1n will download and install Cydia.

Step 8: Once done installing, your iPhone will respring and you should see Cydia on your springboard.

Step 9: Once your installer app (Cydia in our case) is installed. You can safely uninstall BlackRa1n by launching the app and selecting “uninstall balckra1n”.

Step 10: Reboot your iPhone. You’re done!

Now the first thing to do after Jailbreaking your iPhone and getting Cydia installed is to update Cydia. Then I would use Cydia to install Winterboard. This allows you to install tons of themes. Finally open up Cydia, go to manage, then sources. Hit EDIT then ADD. And add: http://cydia.hackulo.us/

Cydia will now add a Hackulo.us folder in SECTIONS. Go to SECTIONS in Cydia and click Hackulo.us. Then scroll down to Installous. Install it. Once you are done you will have an Installous icon on your springboard. With Installous, you will be able to install all sorts of apps.

Super Street Fighter 4

Thats right! Next version is already coming out. Arcade version will probably hit in the new year and then console version after that. It wont be a download either. You will have to buy a whole new game. The game will feature eight new fighters, including a new female contender Juri, Hakan being a Arab grappler associated with lots and lots of oils, and EIGHT returning cast members from other Street Fighter games. Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto from the Street Fighter III series, from the Street Fighter Alpha series, Cody, Adon, and Guy, and from the Super Turbo series, we have T. Hawk and Dee Jay. Also balancing tweaks, added new ultra combos, and improvements to online play.

Iphone 3gs

Well I finally got a 3gs last week and I must say it is the nicest phone Ive ever had. Now I loved my 2g. The flat metal back was very nice. I wasnt sure how I would like the curved plastic back of the 3gs. But I like it. The first thing I noticed was its very fast. The screen has a more yellowish, warmer tone than my 2g had. This took me a minute to get used to. There has been a lot of people complaining about getting screens that had more yellow areas and darker spots. Mine seems fine so far. I havent had too much time to play with the camera and video recorder. But they seem very decent for a phone. Once again though you need a pretty well lit area to take a good picture.

I guess my favorite feature right now is the new glass screen. Its way more resistant to smudges. And being the freak that I am it gives me a nice feeling when I pull it out my pocket and see how nice it looks. Here is Bill Nye, talking about the new screen:

The new 3GS iPhone has a coating that helps you leave no, well hardly any, prints–-fingerprints. The glass screen is coated with a polymer, a plastic that human skin oil doesn't adhere to very well. People in the chemical bonding business like to call the finished surface "oleophobic."

The Applers were able to do this by bonding this oleophobic polymer to glass. The polymer is an organic (from organisms) compound, carbon-based. The glass is nominally inorganic, silicon-based… solid rock. The trick is getting the one to stick to the other. Although it is nominally proprietary, this is probably done with a third molecule that sticks to silicon on one side and to carbon-based polymers on the other side. Chemical engineers get it to stay stuck by inducing compounds to diffuse or "inter-penetrate" into the polymer. The intermediate chemical is a "silane," a molecule that has silicon and alkanes (chains of carbon atoms).

Complete list of new features:

Speed
The "S" stands for "SPEED!" And according to Apple, it is faster launching applications or rendering Web pages.

• The iPhone 3GS has a new processor built-in. Apple claims that it is up to two times faster than the previous generation: Launching messages is 2.1 faster, load the NY Times in Safari: 2.9 times faster. It also consumes less, which has an impact on the improved battery life.

Camera
This is one of the strong points of the iPhone 3GS, according to Apple. They increased the resolution to 3 megapixels, which—judging from the shots they showed-seems much better quality under all conditions.

• 3 Megapixels sensor.
• New camera, with auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance.
• You can also tap to focus, changing white balance in the process. That is really neat, if you ask me.
• Special macro and low light modes.
• The camera also supports photo and video geotagging.
• Any application can access all the camera functions now.
• It supports video, 30 frames per second VGA with auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure.
• You can trim the video shot just using your finger, then share it via MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube.

Connectivity
The other part of the "S" is the support for the faster 7.2 Mbps 3G standard, which in theory will deliver data faster to your iPhone.

• Three band UMTS/HSDPA.
• Four band GSM/EDGE.
• Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
• Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

Graphics
• The new iPhone 3GS includes new 3D graphics support in hardware. This means faster and more complicated 3D games.
• Same 3.5-inch widescreen multitouch display, but this time it has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. I wonder if it will withstand a full frontal Shake Shack burger attack.

• Same design as before, including the glossy finish of the back (so much for all the rumors about the matte back.)
• Same size as the old iPhone 3G: 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches.
• The weight increases a bit: One ounce to 4.8 ounces (135 grams vs 133 grams).
• Greener materials: Arsenic-free glass, BDF-free, Mercury-free LCD.
• It has a magnetometer, which works with a Compass application, third parties, and it is integrated into the new Google maps app, showing your orientation with a small semitransparent cone.
• Voice control. You can now talk with your iPhone, Enterprise-style. You can instruct it to play similar songs to the one you are playing, or call people.
• Nike + support built in.
• Supports accessibility features, like zooming on text, inverting video, and voice over when you touch whatever text is on screen.

Battery life
• One of the more important new features is the increased battery life.
• According to Apple, you will get up to 12 hours of talk time on 2G and 5 on 3G, with a up to 300 hour standby time.
• On 3G, it will deliver 5 hours of internet use.
• On Wi-Fi, Internet goes up to 9 hours.
• Video playback is 10 hours vs 30 hours for audio.

OSX 10.5 Lost Admin Password? No Problem!

Ive been doing more Mac stuff lately and wanted to have an admin account on a mac that I didnt have any passwords for. I could have used the OSX disc but here is an easy way to create an admin account without being an admin. I only tried this on 10.5:

Restart the mac and hold Apple & S. It should bring up the terminal.

Hit enter after every line:

mount -uw /

rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

shutdown -h now

Thats it. It should restart and setup OSX like it was for the first time. Make yourself an account and you are now an admin. The back wheel can be flipped to either fixed or free wheel. It comes with brakes and toe clips. Its pretty light and rides very fast for me. I kept it free wheel with breaks. Chopped and flopped the stock handle bars and took off the toe clips. I love this bike! The whole thing is about De Le Soul. Everything you want to know! I read this thing from front to back. They talk to studio engineers like Bob Powers. It covers all the early years with Tommy Boy. Its full of great pics and interviews. They even talk with Chi Ali in prison. This is a must read for any fan. I found this at a few Skate shops in San Fran so keep an eye out.

Frank151 #37 De la Soul

Little Big Planet MGS4 Levels!

Well again this is about 9 months late but after playing LBP last night for the first time, I must say its very addicting. You get over $30 in bonus content including 18 new levels and over a dozen costume packs. Also I received a code to download the beta for ModNation Racers which looks really interesting. The beta should be online now or soon:

http://www.us.playstation.com/modnation/

I also wanted to share the amazing DBZ parody someone made with Little Big Planet.

<link rel='alternate' type='text/html' href='http://atx-cell.blogspot.com/2009/09/i-missed-little-big-planet-first-time.html' title='Little Big Planet -
