Cell and the 240sx take a trip to Telluride

Well I decided to give my great friend Ed a ride to his new home of Telluride, Co. I had planned to spend a day with him and leave the next morning. But things dont always work out the way you think. It hadnt snowed yet and everything seemed fine. But while we were eating breakfast it started to snow. And then it really started to snow. While on our way back around the mountain from Telluride to Mountain Village, the car began to lose traction pretty bad. So we went back to Telluride, which isnt very big, and bought some chains for the tires. Started back around the mountain and as soon as we started to climb we started to slide off the edge. It was very scary. We ended having to get help. A nice cop got us a tow from this guy named Renegade. After a little detour he dropped us off and we are safe. But it will be snowing for the next few days so I will be staying longer than I had planned.

Snow Joke!

OSx86 Project

Photobucket

I havent updated the blog in a few weeks. Ive been very busy with a new project. My friend just got a new Dell laptop. He is moving away next week and wanted to know if its possible to run Garageband on a pc. Its not. But you can run Mac OSX on a pc. So I looked into that. This website has all the info you will need:

http://www.insanelymac.com/

But its not that simple. You need a computer with components that are similar to an Intel mac. You DONT have to, but it will make things a lot easier.

Dell Mini 10v

In the link above you see how to take a very cheap Dell Mini and run a retail copy of OSX on it. But other laptops and computers may not be so easy. I started on my Dell M1210 first. And after a few days I am now tri booting XP, Win7 and Osx 10.5.6. But its not flawless. I dont have the bootloader working perfect. As I work more on my friends Dell 1318 I will post back with how I got things running and what all works. Thats if I can do it. =)

Iphone 3gs 3.1 OTB Jailbroken with Blackra1n

Photobucket

http://blackra1n.com/

Geohot released Blackra1n at 3:33am Sunday 10-11-09. I have a Week 37 iPhone 3gs that shipped with 3.1 OTB - out of the box. So this is the first app to allow me to jailbreak it. This tutorial is for the PC version of Blackra1n. There is a mac version also.

BlackRa1n will not unlock your iPhone. Also you should not update to 3.1.2 if you want to be able to unlock. If that’s your case, you will have to wait for the Dev Team to update PwnageTool.

This tutorial was written for an iPhone 3GS but the process is exactly the same for all iPhones.

How to Jailbreak Your iPhone Using BlackRain:

Step 1: Update iTunes to the latest version available, (as of 10-14-09 its iTunes 9), and reboot your computer. 3.1.2 is the lastest iPhone firmware at this time. (My iPhone 3gs was on 3.1 and this still worked. For others it did not.)

Step 2: Download BlackRa1n: http://blackra1n.com/

Step 3: Plug your iPhone to your computer and launch BlackRa1n. Click on “make it ra1n”.

Step 4: Your iPhone will now enter recovery mode. The regular recovery mode image on your iPhone will be replaced by a picture of GeoHot.

Step 5: BlackRa1n will run on your iPhone and then it will reboot.

Step 6: Once your iPhone reboots, you will notice a new icon on your springboard. This is BlackRa1n. Now make sure you have internet connection and launch BlackRa1n on your iPhone.

Step 7: Choose what installer applications you want to install on your iPhone and then tap “Install”. I suggest only installing Cydia.

BlackRa1n will download and install Cydia.

Step 8: Once done installing, your iPhone will respring and you should see Cydia on your springboard.

Step 9: Once your installer app (Cydia in our case) is installed. You can safely uninstall BlackRa1n by launching the app and selecting “uninstall balckra1n”.

Step 10: Reboot your iPhone. You’re done!

Now the first thing to do after Jailbreaking your iPhone and getting Cydia installed is to update Cydia. Then I would use Cydia to install Winterboard. This allows you to install tons of themes. Finally open up Cydia, go to manage, then sources. Hit EDIT then ADD. And add: http://cydia.hackulo.us/

Cydia will now add a Hackulo.us folder in SECTIONS. Go to SECTIONS in Cydia and click Hackulo.us. Then scroll down to Installous. Install it. Once you are done you will have an Installous icon on your springboard. With Installous, you will be able to install all sorts of apps.

Super Street Fighter 4

Thats right! Next version is already coming out. Arcade version will probably hit in the new year and then console version after that. It wont be a download either. You will have to buy a whole new game. The game will feature eight new fighters, including a new female contender Juri, Hakan being a Arab grappler associated with lots and lots of oils, and EIGHT returning cast members from other Street Fighter games. Dudley, Ibuki, and Makoto from the Street Fighter III series, from the Street Fighter Alpha series, Cody, Adon, and Guy, and from the Super Turbo series, we have T. Hawk and Dee Jay. Also balancing tweaks, added new ultra combos, and improvements to online play.

Iphone 3gs

Photobucket

Well I finally got a 3gs last week and I must say it is the nicest phone Ive ever had. Now I loved my 2g. The flat metal back was very nice. I wasnt sure how I would like the curved plastic back of the 3gs. But I like it. The first thing I noticed was its very fast. The screen has a more yellowish, warmer tone than my 2g had. This took me a minute to get used to. There has been a lot of people complaining about getting screens that had more yellow areas and darker spots. Mine seems fine so far. I havent had too much time to play with the camera and video recorder. But they seem very decent for a phone. Once again though you need a pretty well lit area to take a good picture.

I guess my favorite feature right now is the new glass screen. Its way more resistant to smudges. And being the freak that I am it gives me a nice feeling when I pull it out my pocket and see how nice it looks. Here is Bill Nye, talking about the new screen:

The new 3GS iPhone has a coating that helps you leave no, well hardly any, prints–-fingerprints. The glass screen is coated with a polymer, a plastic that human skin oil doesn't adhere to very well. People in the chemical bonding business like to call the finished surface "oleophobic."

The Applers were able to do this by bonding this oleophobic polymer to glass. The polymer is an organic (from organisms) compound, carbon-based. The glass is nominally inorganic, silicon-based… solid rock. The trick is getting the one to stick to the other. Although it is nominally proprietary, this is probably done with a third molecule that sticks to silicon on one side and to carbon-based polymers on the other side. Chemical engineers get it to stay stuck by inducing compounds to diffuse or "inter-penetrate" into the polymer. The intermediate chemical is a "silane," a molecule that has silicon and alkanes (chains of carbon atoms).

Complete list of new features:

Speed
The "S" stands for "SPEED!" And according to Apple, it is faster launching applications or rendering Web pages.

• The iPhone 3GS has a new processor built-in. Apple claims that it is up to two times faster than the previous generation: Launching messages is 2.1 faster, load the NY Times in Safari: 2.9 times faster. It also consumes less, which has an impact on the improved battery life.

Camera
This is one of the strong points of the iPhone 3GS, according to Apple. They increased the resolution to 3 megapixels, which—judging from the shots they showed-seems much better quality under all conditions.

• 3 Megapixels sensor.
• New camera, with auto focus, auto exposure, and auto white balance.
• You can also tap to focus, changing white balance in the process. That is really neat, if you ask me.
• Special macro and low light modes.
• The camera also supports photo and video geotagging.
• Any application can access all the camera functions now.
• It supports video, 30 frames per second VGA with auto focus, auto white balance, and auto exposure.
• You can trim the video shot just using your finger, then share it via MMS, email, MobileMe and YouTube.

Connectivity
The other part of the "S" is the support for the faster 7.2 Mbps 3G standard, which in theory will deliver data faster to your iPhone.

• Three band UMTS/HSDPA.
• Four band GSM/EDGE.
• Wi-Fi 802.11b/g.
• Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR

Graphics
• The new iPhone 3GS includes new 3D graphics support in hardware. This means faster and more complicated 3D games.
• Same 3.5-inch widescreen multitouch display, but this time it has a fingerprint-resistant oleophobic coating. I wonder if it will withstand a full frontal Shake Shack burger attack.

• Same design as before, including the glossy finish of the back (so much for all the rumors about the matte back.)
• Same size as the old iPhone 3G: 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.48 inches.
• The weight increases a bit: One ounce to 4.8 ounces (135 grams vs 133 grams).
• Greener materials: Arsenic-free glass, BDF-free, Mercury-free LCD.
• It has a magnetometer, which works with a Compass application, third parties, and it is integrated into the new Google maps app, showing your orientation with a small semitransparent cone.
• Voice control. You can now talk with your iPhone, Enterprise-style. You can instruct it to play similar songs to the one you are playing, or call people.
• Nike + support built in.
• Supports accessibility features, like zooming on text, inverting video, and voice over when you touch whatever text is on screen.

Battery life
• One of the more important new features is the increased battery life.
• According to Apple, you will get up to 12 hours of talk time on 2G and 5 on 3G, with a up to 300 hour standby time.
• On 3G, it will deliver 5 hours of internet use.
• On Wi-Fi, Internet goes up to 9 hours.
• Video playback is 10 hours vs 30 hours for audio.

OSX 10.5 Lost Admin Password? No Problem!

Ive been doing more Mac stuff lately and wanted to have an admin account on a mac that I didnt have any passwords for. I could have used the OSX disc but here is an easy way to create an admin account without being an admin. I only tried this on 10.5:

Restart the mac and hold Apple & S. It should bring up the terminal.

Hit enter after every line:

mount -uw /

rm /var/db/.AppleSetupDone

shutdown -h now

Thats it. It should restart and setup OSX like it was for the first time. Make yourself an account and you are now an admin. This also leaves previous accounts untouched.
